Why join Sigma Delta Tau?

The special bond of sisterhood provides a unique connection which begins in college and lasts a lifetime.

These distinctive ties of friendship provide a network of female support in every phase of a member’s life. These friendships will enrich a sister’s college experience, as well as provide exceptional connections in both personal and professional life after graduation.

Promotes Academic Achievement
Sigma Delta Tau encourages each individual member to reach her fullest potential by providing intellectual opportunities. SDT is dedicated to helping each member succeed academically through scholarship programming, recognition incentives, and mentoring opportunities.

Builds Leadership Skills
Sigma Delta Tau sisters develop leadership talents through “hands-on” experience in a variety of fields. Through chairing a project, leading an intramural team, holding an executive board office, or creating a fund raising campaign.

Instills a Sense of Philanthropy
Every chapter of Sigma Delta Tau is actively involved in the support of SDT’s National Philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America. Through educational awareness programs, to community service projects, to fund raising activities, each chapter creatively donates their time, energy and money to assist the National Headquarters of PCAA or a local child abuse agency.

New Member Period
The six-week New Member period is designed to educate our new members of Sigma Delta Tau's history and traditions. Our New Members also learn about Greek life at SUNY Oneonta, skills in leadership and scholarship, and how to get involved on campus and in the community. It is an excellent opportunity to meet new people from all walks of life, and is a time dedicated to beginning the bonds of sisterhood with pledge sisters and active members of SDT.

Hazing is against Sigma Delta Tau's policy and is not permitted. Hazing is any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule. We strictly enforce a 100% non-hazing New Member process for the safety, respect, and integrity of our new members. Prior to the start of each New Member period, our program is approved both locally and nationally. If you have any further questions on our chapter's New Member Program, we strongly encourage you to contact the President and/or New Member Educator.
